The Complete Guide to Lash Lifts

I love finding new trending beauty tips that can cut down on my morning routine. I'm a pretty simple person, but lashes have always been one of my obsessions. Applying fake eyelashes was one of those steps in my makeup routine that I couldn't leave out. As I got older, I preferred a more natural-looking lash look. I never had long eyelashes, but eyelash growth serums like  GrandeLASH - MD Lash Enhancing Serum have enhanced them tremendously. Learning about lash lifts, also known as lash lamination, was a complete game changer when I didn't have to curl my lashes anymore!

What Is A Lash Lift?

If you've ever gotten your hair permed before, it's a similar process except on your eyelashes. A lash lift is a beauty treatment designed to enhance the natural eyelashes by curling and lifting them upward, creating the appearance of longer, more voluminous lashes. It’s essentially like a perm for your eyelashes, giving them a semi-permanent shape without the need for eyelash extensions or daily use of a curler.

How To Apply Lash Lift To Natural Lashes?

Lash lifts are a simple process. It is typically done in a salon with other services such as lash tints, brow stains, brow tints, or brow laminations. If you are a DIYer like myself, below is a typical step-by-step process.

  • Preparation:
    • The lashes are cleaned to remove any makeup, oils, or debris.
    • A silicone rod or shield is placed on the eyelid, and the lashes are carefully adhered to it using a gentle adhesive to shape them into the desired curve.
  • Lifting Solution:
    • A chemical solution is applied to the lashes to soften and reshape the hair structure, allowing them to take on the lifted curl of the silicone mold.
  • Setting Solution:
    • A neutralizing solution is used to lock in the new shape.
  • Finishing Touches:
    • The lashes are cleaned and separated, and sometimes a tint is applied for added definition and a mascara-like effect.

Benefits of A Lash Lift

Lash lifts are an excellent choice if you want a low-maintenance enhancement that will open up your eyes. Of course, those with naturally long lashes benefit more from this procedure, but I wouldn't rule it out for those with shorter lashes. I consider my eyelashes very short, and I love the fact that my eyelashes stay curled after applying mascara. Using a quality mascara like  Grande Cosmetics GrandeMASCARA Conditioning Peptide Mascara will also add volume and length.

  • Opens up the eyes for a more awake and youthful appearance.
  • Results last 6–8 weeks, depending on your natural lash cycle.
  • Low maintenance compared to eyelash extensions.
  • Works well with or without mascara.

Cons of A Lash Lift

Personally, I love my lash lift even though my lash length is far from being desirable. With that said, there are some areas that you may want to consider if it's worth it for you or not.

  • Potential for Irritation or Allergic Reactions:
    • The chemicals used in the lifting solutions may irritate the skin or eyes, especially for individuals with sensitive skin or allergies.
    • Patch tests are often recommended before the procedure.
  • Risk of Over-Processing or Damage:
    • Overuse of chemicals or incorrect application can weaken or damage natural lashes, making them brittle.
  • Incompatibility with Certain Eye Conditions:
    • People with certain eye conditions (e.g., infections, styes, or severe allergies) should avoid the procedure.
  • Not as Customizable as Extensions:
    • Unlike lash extensions, which offer various lengths and styles, a lash lift only enhances your natural lashes, so the level of drama is limited.
  • Temporary Results:
    • The lift lasts about 6–8 weeks, depending on the natural lash growth cycle, after which the effects gradually fade.
    • Maintenance is required for consistent results.
  • Results May Vary:
    • The outcome depends on your lashes' natural length, thickness, and condition.
    • Those with very short or sparse lashes may not achieve dramatic results.
  • Cost Considerations:
    • Professional lash lifts can be expensive, ranging from $50 to $150 per session, depending on the location and technician.

Is a Lash Lift Worth It?

While there are cons, lash lifts may still be ideal for those seeking a low-maintenance enhancement to their natural lashes without the upkeep of extensions. I also enjoyed that my lashes stayed curled even after applying mascara, which was always an issue for me, even after curling them with an eyelash curler.

Can Lash Lifts Be Done At Home?

Although it is highly recommended to go to a professional lash artist to perform the service, it is not uncommon for many DIY'ers to give themselves a lash lift to save on cost and time.
