What are the ingredients in Scarguard Professional Prevascar?
Scarguard Prevascar is a brush-on liquid with a formula that effectively delivers cortisone, silicone, and vitamin E into the skin. It dries in seconds to form a flexible invisible patch. This unique combination of medication and patch activates the body's natural ability to produce collagenase, the enzyme that melts scar tissue. As a result, Scarguard Professional Prevascar helps prevent new scars after injury or surgery and shrinks old scars. However, please do not use it on open or healing wounds.
Active ingredients: Silicone, Hydrocortisone 1.0%
Scarguard Vs. Scaraway:
Scarguard's main ingredients are silicone and 1% hydrocortisone, while Scaraway's main ingredients are polysiloxanes and silicon dioxide. Both contain silicone. Hydrocortisone is a topical medication commonly used to treat redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort of various skin conditions. Hydrocortisone is in a class of drugs called corticosteroids. It works by activating natural substances in the skin to reduce swelling, redness, and itching.
How do scars fade?
At first, a typical scar may be red and look sore, but it will usually fade as the injury begins to heal. If the skin at the edges of the wound has come together neatly, the scar will usually heal as a thin, pale line. While existing scars cannot completely disappear, you can speed up the fading process by regularly applying certain topical creams, lotions, and gels. Common ingredients in scar treatments include aloe vera, cocoa butter, Vitamin E, honey, and other hydrating materials. In time, collagen breaks down at the wound site, and the blood supply reduces. As a result, the scar gradually becomes smoother and softer. Although scars are permanent, they can fade for up to 2 years. It's unlikely they'll disappear anymore after this time without treatment.
Is silicone good for scars?
Silicon gel exerts several actions which may explain this benefit in scars: Silicone gel increases hydration and thereby facilitates regulation for fibroblast production. The result? A softer, flatter scar that allows the skin to breathe. This promotes the regulation of fibroblast production and also reduces collagen production. You can start using silicone gel as soon as possible; it won't cause any more pain than a cut would and will help keep scars from forming. Generally, it takes about three weeks for an injury to recover fully, but this can vary by patient. So, can silicone sheets make scars worse? The short answer is no; silicone strips are a safe and effective way to reduce scars, with no reported side effects. The FDA has even recommended them for their treatment properties because they are non-toxic, medical-grade silicone.
